Accepting Evangelicals
Newsletter - May 2010
Dear Friends
You are invited - Saturday 5th June ...
to the first Annual Meeting of Accepting Evangelicals at St Andrew's Church, London SE1.
Up to now we have existed purely as an informal internet network, but recent developments and opportunities mean that we
think it is time to form Accepting Evangelicals as an organization with a constitution and a bank account, to which people
can donate if they wish.
To make this transition, we will be holding our first Annual Meeting in London
All members of Accepting Evangelicals are warmly invited to:
This is a crucial step for Accepting Evangelicals and we hope that a good number of people will be able to attend.
St Andrew's church is on Short Street which is just opposite the famous Young Vic Theatre.

Please pray for Mary Glasspool's consecration...
In the United States, Mary Glasspool will be consecrated on 15th May by the Presiding Bishop, Katharine Jefferts Schori.
Mary is the first openly lesbian priest to be elected to the office of Bishop in the USA, and her consecration is likely to
result in celebration and condemnation in equal measure around the world.
Please pray:
If you would like to know more about Mary Glasspool, the website for Los Angeles Diocese has the following interview:
Dio of Los Angeles. Particularly
striking, was her account of her first speech to General Convention which she relates as follows:
As a 24-year-old seminarian, I registered to give one of the many three-minute or less witnesses. Shaking in my
little pulpit pumps, and in front of at least 1,500 people, I tried to make the point that when we are talking about human
sexuality, we’re not talking about issues, we’re talking about people. I ended my “speech” with this: I trust that God’s
Love at this Convention will transcend the issues and address the people – all of us – in our wholeness. I trust and I pray
that that same love will prevent any of us from condemning others - particularly in this case, homosexuals, in our human,
and full, and loving wholeness.
Love is an Orientation ... Spring Harvest 2010
US speaker, Andrew Marin was invited to Spring Harvest this year to talk on homosexuality. This conservative evangelical
Christian has established a ministry of conversation and mutual respect between Churches and the Gay Community in Chicago
and across the United Sates.
Forced to face the issue of homosexuality head on when his 3 closest friends came out to him as lesbian and gay, he moved
into Boystown, a Gay neighbourhood in Chicago, to listen and learn. Out of this experience came his book, "Love is an
Orientation" which argues for mutual acceptance of different perspectives and faith journeys in the debate over
homosexuality. He encourages both sides of the debate to come together and learn how to love each other as Christ loves us.
Downloads of his talks are available at Essential Christian - follow the link
