Accepting Evangelicals
Newsletter - June 2010
Dear Friends
Charity Launched ...
On Saturday 5th June, Accepting
Evangelicals had its first ever meeting to adopt a formal constitution as a
small charity! It was wonderful to put some faces to the names, and we took the
opportunity to discuss our future direction.
Among the areas we discussed were:
...so watch this space as we put these ideas into practice!
Our first Trustees are:-
Benny & Mel Hazlehurst, Ray Khan, Mike Dark, Jeremy Marks, Martin
Stears-Handscomb, & Sigrun Wagner.
This is a crucial step for Accepting Evangelicals and we are now setting up a
bank account so that we can expand our activities. When we have done this, we
hope that members will consider prayerfully making a small donation to get
things going. More later ...

No Meltdown following Mary Glasspool's
consecration...
Thank you to everyone who prayed around the consecration of Mary Glasspool as Bishop in the Diocese of Los Angeles.
The consecration was a joyful and colourful event with a congregation of several thousand.
"Los Angeles’ rich diversity was represented in song and dance, amid a mosaic of varying races, ethnicities, ages,
genders, and sexual orientations -- none of which mattered" said the Diocesan Bishop, Jon Bruno, “because we are all people
of God.”
Reaction around the Anglican Communion has been somewhat muted, in contrast to the wave of controversy which followed
Bishop Gene Robinson's consecration in 2003. However the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, has used his Pentecost
letter to the Communion to call for The Episcopal Church in the United States and Canada to remove its representatives
from 2 committees as a result of the consecration.
The impact of such a move is not clear, and the Archbishop's letter seems to be contradictory. In the letter Rowan
Williams builds a strong case for mutual dialogue, respect and fellowship in our Christian diversity and in the different
contexts and cultures in which we minister. How this dialogue is going to be achieved by excluding North American churches
from discussions in the Anglican Communion is a mystery! See the web site for more in depth comment -
Right Direction, Wrong Turn.
